Preacher / Teacher

I began teaching at Oral Roberts University as a teaching assistant in the undergraduate school of Theology and Missions. I was promoted to Head Teaching Assistant and enjoyed working with the hundreds of students taking the general education Bible and Theology classes, as well as the chair of our department, Dr. Cheryl Iverson. I attended ORU from 1989-1997 and earned three degrees while I was there: B.A. Old Testament/ Music Minor, Master of Divinity, and Master of Arts in Biblical Literature.

I also taught at and directed a Bible institute in a Foursquare church in Ada, Oklahoma. It was called Victory School of Ministry and you can check out the curriculum at
www.vsom.1hwy.com.

I teach guitar as well.  It's a joy to bring students from total beginner to becoming a confident, competent player.

I currently am the supply preacher at the United Methodist Churches in Stuart and Gerty, Oklahoma.  You can check out their websites at  stuart.1hwy.com  and gerty.1hwy.com

HOBBIES

When I have the time, I pursue my flower garden. I enjoy landscaping and tending to all kinds of plants and even some vegetables. I enjoy seeing how other people live - so, travel is a hobby of mine. In the future, I want to learn how to fly airplanes and helicopters, so airports are a big turn-on for me. I don't know if "Pizza" can be considered a hobby, but in college I acquired the nickname "PizzaRita" for my particular view of theology. I'll have more about that later, though. But I am one person who enjoys a good New York style pizza - hand-tossed. No cheap pizza, please.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a thing for books. Lots of 'em. My library has its own room in my house. I don't know why, but I guess it's a common trait among "melancholy-choleric" personalities like me.... we love to be surrounded by books, and gaining knowledge is just a cool thing we like to do. The down side of that is a tendency to think that you have to know it ALL about a subject. Hence, books upon books. Some of my favorite writers are:  C.S. Lewis, Phillip Keller, Emily Gardiner Neal and Joyce Meyer.

Photography is a favorite hobby and one that's gotten more interesting with the advent of digital cameras.  Because of this hobby, I have learned to carefully observe my world and the "peripheral" issues.  I've learned the deeper meaning of "focus" and the patience of waiting to capture an anticipated moment.  Things like timing, perspective, and wide angle have helped me be a more understanding person.

Musician

Growing up, I wanted to be different things - a cowgirl, policewoman, a computer programmer. But always in my mind was to play and sing and write music. I enjoy playing acoustic guitar, and a little piano and drums.  I have played and sung in several church worship groups and would like to do that again.  I sing alto, write songs and have played the guitar for over 30 years.

As for listening to music, I enjoy Steven Curtis Chapman, Fernando Ortega, Dennis Jernigan, David Phillip, and the Martins. Basically I like a lot of the CCM - Contemporary Christian Music artists but specifically, I like the sound of instrumental worship and the rich treasury of Christian hymns done in traditional "church" style (pipe organ and choir) as well as modern arrangements. I believe that we were created for worship and music is one of the highest and deepest expressions and experiences there is. I know for a fact that music changes the atmosphere in a place.

Minister

In 1989, I had a "spiritual experience" that changed my life and my direction. Jesus called me to preach, heal the sick, cast out demons, minister with anointed music, and to prophesy.  He also told me to go to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to prepare for this life.  While there, I completed my Bachelor's in Old Testament (minor in Music), and went on to complete a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Biblical Literature.

Since my calling, I have been involved in many facets of ministry including leading worship (singing, playing guitar), preaching, teaching, directing a Bible Institute, directing a church outreach to feed the needy in the Ada community and to network community agencies to volunteer to achieve this expanding outreach.  I have also taught and spoken at conferences and am currently a supply preacher at the United Methodist Churches in Stuart and Gerty, Oklahoma.
